RESIDENTIAL | Renovation | Designed by Aoc architekti, the Green House is a 2023 residential villa project in the Prague Podolí district of the Czech Republic. The project involved the extensive transformation of a worn-out 60-year-old family house into a modern, high-standard residence. Located in the village of Dvorce on the edge of a residential area, the house enjoys scenic views of the Vltava River. The architecture of the Green House is defined by a strong and refined atmosphere, with careful attention paid to the integration of interior details with the surrounding garden landscape. The design thoughtfully manipulates different types of light to enhance the living experience: A sophisticated, distinctive, fine scraped green render facade allows the house to blend into the surrounding vegetation, its appearance subtly shifting with the seasons. Semi-transparent facades and skylights offer soft, diffused light, while contrasting areas of twilight are also incorporated. A monumental studio window on the main level changes the atmosphere of the space depending on the time of day. The interior space is a blend of custom and existing furnishings, creating a comfortable and personalized Custom-made built-in furniture conceals service functions and entrances to private areas. Tables crafted from polished solid tropical padouk wood on a steel structure were designed specifically for the house. The client's own older furniture is discreetly integrated into the new design. The owners' personal photographs and paintings by contemporary artists hang on the walls. Upper floor: A dedicated study and lounge area with a fireplace and large windows offers expansive views of the river. A private zone with a bedroom, dressing room, and blue bathroom is located behind the study. Staircase: An oak-paneled wooden staircase connects the floors, contributing to the home's cozy, domestic atmosphere. The house is situated within a naturally growing garden, with future plans to include exotic fruit trees, a water feature, and a vineyard. RESIDENTIAL | Cabin | The Ecological Holiday Home is a 70-square-meter retreat in Brasschaat, Belgium, designed by POLYGOON Architectuur for clients Wim and Joosie. Completed in 2020, the project's primary goal was to create a comfortable, low-impact holiday house that would blend as much as possible into its forest surroundings. The design is defined by its strong ecological principles, using renewable, biodegradable, and recyclable materials in a circular construction process. The house is supported by 11 slender poles, allowing the structure to "float" about half a meter above the forest floor, minimizing its physical and visual footprint. This foundation system means the house can be moved in its entirety, with the option to add two extra poles for a terrace. HOSPITALITY | Tiny Home | Przylądek Marzeń is a coastal retreat project designed by LOOKA studio, combining a passion for travel, nature, luxury, and adventure into five uniquely themed holiday houses. The resort is located in Wieniotowo, Poland, near the Baltic Sea coast, and was built based on the owners' travel experiences and desire to create a perfect, relaxing getaway. The design of the holiday homes aims to combine comfortable accommodation with the surrounding wild nature, with each of the five houses named to evoke a specific feeling: Pasja (Passion), Wolność (Freedom), Spokój (Peace), Oddech (Breath), and Bliskość (Closeness). The homes, each 63 square meters, are equipped to a high hotel standard, and four of them feature private saunas and hot tubs on the terraces. HOSPITALITY | Cabin | Built and designed by UK-based Koto Design and Koto Living, the Ash Cabin is one of three bespoke cabins that make up the "Trees at Tughall" boutique hotel, located on the Northumberland coast of England and completed around 2022. Situated in a secluded wood on Tughall Grange Farm, the cabin retreat draws inspiration from the region's traditional beach shacks and fishermen's sheds. The cabins, including Ash, Hawthorn, and Willow, were designed with a minimalist, Scandinavian-Japanese aesthetic, often referred to as "Japandi". The 300-square-foot cabins were constructed using sustainable and carbon-neutral prefabricated modular methods. The exterior of each cabin is clad in black-stained Welsh spruce, which allows the structures to blend seamlessly into the woodland surroundings. Inside, the angular, light-filled spaces are finished with poplar plywood on the walls and ceilings, while the floors are made of locally sourced solid ash. Large windows and double doors provide expansive views of the wild meadow and surrounding nature, fostering a sense of connection with the outdoors. The interiors also feature minimalist details like a king-size bed, a wood-burning stove, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom. Covered porches extend the living space into the natural environment, providing a sheltered area for experiencing the landscape. The Ash Cabin itself is nestled among ancient ash trees, which create a dappled light effect on the building's exterior. The design of each cabin prioritizes a distraction-free experience, inviting guests to engage with the natural environment rather than with modern technology. This focus on emotional minimalism and low-impact building is a hallmark of Koto's design philosophy.
