Located on the exact site of a fishing trailer that belonged to the clients' father, the tiny house honors the family's history while providing a modern, low-maintenance escape. The property is nestled within a natural clearing of pine, oak, and hickory trees, offering picturesque western views of a pond. The tiny house is wrapped in a continuous roof and wall plane, which is clad in durable, low-maintenance metal panels. Galvanized standing-seam panels on the main surface provide a distinct vertical rhythm, while charcoal corrugated metal panels on other walls offer a different texture and scale. The use of concrete masonry units and pressure-treated wood further enhances the home's longevity and minimal upkeep. A prominent, full-length front porch extends the living space outdoors and spans the width of the house. It sits within the space created by the continuous roof and wall plane, offering a sheltered spot to enjoy the pond views and natural surroundings. RESIDENTIAL | Boathouse | On the island of Sokn on Norway's western coast, architect Espen Surnevik transformed a decaying 200-year-old traditional stone naust, or boathouse, into a contemporary vacation home that respects its heritage while providing modern functionality. The project balances endurance with economy, blending old craftsmanship with minimalist interventions. The boathouse, a historic feature of Norwegian coastal culture, was originally built using locally gathered moraine stones. Surnevik's design retains the integrity of the original structure, with local masons repairing and reinforcing the dry-laid stone walls rather than replacing them. A key aspect of the design is the juxtaposition of the ancient stone foundation with a new, contemporary superstructure. This new volume mirrors the traditional local boathouse typology, with a low roof pitch and a lack of overhangs, a feature shaped by the harsh coastal climate. The exterior of the new upper volume is clad in matte black oxidized zinc, a durable material that weathers gracefully over time and stands in quiet contrast to the textured stone base. The interior, built primarily from spruce and pine, offers a simple, warm, and natural atmosphere. RESIDENTIAL | Cabin | A small building with a small program. A place to make food. A place to eat. A place to enjoy the view. A place to sleep. A fireplace. A bathroom. And some storage. The small cabin is located at Rones, 150km north of Trondheim. The site is steep and rough with a view of the fjord. The cabin has a compact footprint which adapts to the landscape and preserves the site and its vegetation. The main floor is a concrete construction with three different levels adapting to the terrain. The concrete base, and the big wooden windows in front, support the second floor; a triangular shaped volume of cross laminated timber wrapped in black roofing felt. The interior is characterized by the raw concrete walls, the polished concrete floor, the wooden windows and the 2.nd store all made in Norwegian pine. The furnishing is made out of Norwegian birch. Gutter and other outdoor details are made in untreated copper, and will darken with time. RESIDENTIAL | Tiny House | Located in Warsaw, Poland, Meveline Noya Tinyhouse represents a response to the growing desire for a connection to nature amidst urban living. As human life has shifted from rural areas to cities, many people have experienced a natural inclination to reconnect with nature. This project emerges from a rich narrative that intertwines personal passion, innovative design, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship. "The inception of this Tiny House can be traced back to Szymon Girtler, who, after years of producing skis under the Monck Custom brand, found himself pivoting due to unexpected changes in the market landscape. With his ski business halted, Szymon sought to further develop his carpentry skills, leading him to collaborate with Ewa Gregorowicz. Together, they identified a niche in the Polish market for well-designed micro-homes that go beyond the typical prefabricated options," said Mikołaj Wojciechowski, Co-founder of Studio Public Partnering with Mikołaj Wojciechowski and his team at Studio Public, the architects approached the Tiny House project with a fresh perspective. They began with a blank slate, asking themselves what kind of space would provide the utmost comfort.
