  • Small Black in Wide Green | Self-Built Project | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | Tiny House | Situated only 20 minutes away from the owner's apartment in Dresden, the garden house consists of two tiny houses, each with an area of approximately 28-35 square meters  (301-376 square feet). The main structure features a living room with a kitchen, designed to evoke a sense of timelessness. To achieve this, numerous NOS (new old stock) parts were incorporated, including parquet flooring, terrazzo tiles, and bricks for the chimney wall, giving it a vintage appeal. Furnishings were selected for their lightweight aesthetic, featuring iconic pieces such as the Pulkka chair by Ilmari Lappalainen and wire chairs by Charles and Ray Eames. Designed by Krupinski/Krupinska Arkitekter, the small house was created for a family of two adults and two children who needed more space, as the original summer house on the site had become too small. Situated on a former gardener's plot, the design respects the site's history and integrates with existing rock formations and greenery. To accommodate the family's needs within the small footprint, the architects designed a single large square room with a freestanding central volume. This core volume efficiently incorporates a kitchen, storage, and four beds into its design. The open-plan layout and floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides create a surprisingly spacious feeling and provide a strong connection to the surrounding nature. Sliding glass walls can be opened during summer, extending the living space outdoors and allowing for a pleasant breeze to flow through the house. The color palette is deliberately dark for both the exterior and interior, enhancing the building's intimate character and directing focus toward the picturesque views. The exterior is clad in black Falu Rödfärg, a traditional Swedish color, allowing the house to recede into the forest. The single door leads to the bathroom, a separate volume adapted to fit into a gap in the nearby rock formation, which further maximizes interior space. The house was nominated for the Private House Prize in 2016 by the Swedish Association of Architects. Created as a vacation home for an elderly couple who often visit Daegu, the project provides a comfortable and familiar space for them and their visiting family. The house is situated on an elevated eastern side of the plot to maximize yard space on the western side, which faces a public park. The design is notable for its dynamic, sloping roof, which was chosen to both prevent leaks and create an open, airy interior. The roof is cut into sections to allow natural sunlight to enter the bedrooms and bathrooms on the south side, reducing the need for artificial lighting and causing the internal atmosphere to shift throughout the day. The high-ceilinged living room is positioned to overlook the yard and the trees in the park beyond, enhancing the sense of openness. The interior layout was designed to maximize the feeling of space, with an open flow between the living room, kitchen, dining area, and a lofted attic. • World Trade Center San Marino | Foster + Partners | ZHIG

COMMERCIAL | Mixed-use | The World Trade Centre in San Marino fuses many major themes in Foster + Partners’ architecture, in particular the creation of a new public realm, urban regeneration and the long-term environmental benefits from mixed-use developments with built-in flexibility. The World Trade Centre in San Marino will provide living and working accommodation for the local population, but more importantly will create an exciting new public space served by shops, restaurants and cafes. It is more than a single building – it is a catalyst for urban regeneration. Adaptability is vital to the future of our cities. Working patterns have become much more flexible over the last two decades. In response to technological developments, working patterns will no doubt continue to change. We cannot predict the precise nature of these developments, but we can build flexibility into the structure of buildings so that they can continue to be useful as circumstances alter. This is the case with the World Trade Centre in San Marino. This project takes the mixed-use proposition to its logical conclusion – it not only combines apartments, offices, shops and restaurants within the same building, but provides a structure that allows individual units to be easily adapted from offices to apartments should the need arise in the future. The development also provides another public amenity – a much-needed car park to serve not only the development itself, but also the broader local community. No-one wants to look out from the new building and see an ocean of cars, and so the car park has been integrated within the site, partially buried. A concern for the physical context has produced a solution that is sensitive to the culture and climate of their place. Drawing upon the vernacular traditions of this wine-growing region we have created a pergola – or plant-covered roof trellis – covering the car park, providing both natural shading for the cars and an attractive visual shield. A building cannot be viewed in isolation but must be seen as part of the larger urban context. With its combination of office space, apartments and leisure facilities, the World Trade Centre in San Marino will create a new public focus within the city and will act as a magnet for future development. The World Trade Centre building will become a modern iconic beacon for the area and a symbol of San Marino’s investment in its economic future. | https://static.wixstatic.com/media/9756fd_12011a597c164cf4971b37d434c3f9dd~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_2000,h_2000,al_c,q_90/World%20Trade%20Center%20San%20Marino%20(1).jfif 1/0 Private Public Pin Pin 0 x Appreciators 0 3D models Product 5.5K Views 0 Appreciated Appreciate Please login to appreciate World Trade Center San Marino Via Consiglio dei Sessanta, 99, Dogana, San Marino fosterandpartners.com Source: Published on Sep 26, 2023 by: Civil Engineer Rosa Garcia Premium Member More Buildings from Italy Facts: Up Up Architecture Office Foster + Partners United Kingdom Category: COMMERCIAL Mixed-use Project Type: Post Type: Building Country: Italy Photographers: Architects: Foster + Partners Area: 47,000 m2 Year: 2004 City: San Marino Construction: Laing O'Rourke Client Gruppo Gecos. Spa Rimini Description: the architects Text description by The World Trade Centre in San Marino fuses many major themes in Foster + Partners’ architecture, in particular the creation of a new public realm, urban regeneration and the long-term environmental benefits from mixed-use developments with built-in flexibility. Situated along the historic Tokaido Road, the design is a poetic nod to the area's artistic heritage, a path once walked and drawn by the renowned ukiyo-e artist Hiroshige. The house presents a striking sculptural form, defined by its steep, sloping roof that doubles as a wall on the northern facade. In a neighborhood of relatively uniform three-story buildings, House 8.5 stands out through its dynamic form while maintaining a respectful scale. Its intriguing shape and visual angles vary depending on the viewer's position, offering a source of creative inspiration for the resident painter. The interior is cleverly organized to separate the family's living area from the artist's studio using a large, diagonal exhibition wall. This wall, oriented along the maximum diagonal length of the site, provides a prominent space for displaying the painter's work to both the family and the outside world. A glass entrance on the sloped facade offers a glimpse into the atelier from the street. The interplay between the diagonal exhibition wall and the sloped roof creates a three-dimensional effect, with spaces that feel alternately wide and narrow, high and low. Rooms are located on the ground floor, while the kitchen and living room are situated on the first floor. The interior features a white-tiled bathroom and finishes that complement the house's clean, geometric lines. RESIDENTIAL | Cabin | The Magnolia Eco-Cabin, designed by architect Michael Quirk, is a compact, 11-square-meter (120-square-foot), net-zero-carbon cabin located in the forest near Nederland, Colorado. The project was conceived while Quirk served on the Colorado Green Building Guild board, aiming to showcase carbon-negative and net-zero energy building techniques and materials from the guild's members. Built to be a sustainable and off-grid retreat, the cabin is a testament to resourceful building. Much of the structure is made from locally sourced materials and reused components. For insulation, Quirk used hemp wool and hempcrete. The exterior is finished with a variety of woods, including locally sourced birch plywood that has been charred using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method for enhanced durability. Reused metal panels, doors, and windows were also incorporated into the design. The interior of the micro-cabin is a simple, two-room, two-floor space for barebones living. A light-filled living area on the lower floor features a fireplace and a bench for firewood storage. Storage-integrated stairs and a ladder lead to a lofted sleeping area. The cabin is powered by rooftop solar panels, providing it with a renewable energy source that supports its off-grid lifestyle. • Garður Landhouse | Studio Granda | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | House | The Garður Landhouse is a contemporary turf house located on the east bank of the Ytri Rangá river in Iceland, completed in 2014 by Studio Granda. The 68-square-meter home is a modern interpretation of the traditional Icelandic turf house, designed to blend into the landscape by appearing as a continuation of the earth mounds surrounding it. The roof is covered with wild grass and heather, with rainwater channeled through open copper fittings between the northern gables. The house is partially embedded within the grassy landscape, with walls that are either earth-covered or composed of large, glazed sections that provide panoramic views of the surroundings. This design allows for a strong connection to the spectacular landscape, creating the sense of a hidden retreat. The external walls are of the same in-situ concrete as the interior, with some areas featuring columnar basalt masonry. The interior boasts a simple and minimalist aesthetic, with concrete floors and large windows that connect the living spaces to the expansive outdoors. We share our name with a beautiful, remote, and historically important mountain in central Norway. Snøhetta is a place nobody is from, but anyone can experience. Creating places for societies to connect with each other and with the world around them is a primary motivation in our work. Dialogue and diversity empower this approach. Snøhetta first significant commission was in 1989 for Bibliotheca Alexandrina, reviving the ancient library in Alexandria, Egypt. This was followed by commissions for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the World Trade Center in New York City. Since those early projects, many other internationally acclaimed works have been realized around the globe. source: snohetta.com Category Metro station Post Type Building Project Type INFRASTRUCTURE Country Saudi Arabia Year Area - Client Ar-Riyadh Development Authority (ADA) Photographers www.zhiig.com Premium Member CG Artist Andrew L Collaborate 3D Design Suggest Materials Suggest Product Add Request Design © ZHIG Team Materials Suggested by Manufacturers: Model Full Name Details Details View more

It is located in Nissedal, a municipality in the Telemark region of Norway, on the banks of Lake Nisser. Commissioned by Smarte Hytter AS, a local cabin developer, the project was intended as a sustainable and compact alternative to the trend of large, luxurious holiday homes that are common in Norway. The architects' ultimate goal is to develop a floating version of the cabin, but due to local planning restrictions on Lake Nisser, the prototype was built on stilts on the shore. The design of the cabin maximizes the user's connection to the surrounding landscape. A large, glazed facade between the main living area and a covered terrace blurs the line between indoor and outdoor space, creating a seamless link to the lake and landscape. The exterior is clad in thermally treated pinewood, a sustainable and chemical-free material that gives the cabin a natural, integrated feel within its environment. This exterior cladding also has integrated gutters and downpipes, which creates clean, expressive facades. The compact, 26-square-meter floor plan includes a small mezzanine loft for sleeping, with a total capacity to accommodate up to seven people. The module is connected to electricity, water, and sewage via a flexible pipe that enters from beneath, a system designed to be compatible with a future floating version.
