HOSPITALITY | Mixed-use | Anchoring the new Emaar Square development, the 48-storey mixed-use tower is conceived as a new civic landmark and beacon for the district. The design combines luxury and urban lifestyles, creating an exciting new destination, with a hotel, spa and restaurant, on the Asian side of Istanbul. The scheme serves residents, hotel guests and the those living in, or visiting, the surrounding area. The first nine levels of the tower contain a five-star hotel. Luxury residences are located above, ranging in size from a large one-bedroom apartment to a five-bedroom duplex penthouse. Two spectacular amenity floors provide private relaxation rooms, a steam room, sauna, and an expansive heated spa pool with panoramic view of the city. The Spa offers bespoke, traditional, and innovative treatments for guests and residents. The hotel’s elegant Grand Ballroom has the capacity to seat up to 800 people and can be divided into three individual spaces. Crowning the tower is the unique Skyview viewing gallery and terrace, where guests can dine and unwind while overlooking the Bosporus strait, watching life go by between two continents – Europe and Asia. The massing of the tower is split into three slender volumes, accentuating the verticality of the building, while providing each floor with a wider outlook. This allows many units to offer multiple double aspect rooms with exclusive views across the city. The Address achieves LEED Gold Certification through substantial eco-friendly and green initiatives that ensure environmental sustainability and guest wellbeing. Underground car parks, electric vehicle charging stations and reserved parking spaces for low emission vehicles reduce carbon emissions. Efficient water flow and flush fixtures across the hotel save 20 percent of indoor water consumption. 50 percent of the landscape irrigation is reduced by incorporating local and adapted plants that consume less water. Recycled and regional materials are widely used, with more than 75 percent of the construction waste being recycled. The Address was designed with mechanical ventilation, standardised fresh air and temperature set values throughout the building. The façade, mechanical equipment and lighting fixtures have been designed to achieve an energy-efficient building that will set a new benchmark in the region. | https://static.wixstatic.com/media/9756fd_19b32c0204344a608098bbb14c0bf8a3~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_2000,h_1124,al_c,q_90/Address%20Istanbul%20(1).jfif 1/0 Private Public Pin Pin 0 x Appreciators 0 3D models Product 2.1K Views 0 Appreciated Appreciate Please login to appreciate Address Istanbul Ünalan Mahallesi, Libadiye Caddesi No: 82F, Ünalan, G Blok, 34700 Üsküdar/İstanbul, Türkiye fosterandpartners.com Source: Published on Oct 1, 2023 by: Photographer Anna Salonen Premium Member More Buildings from Turkey Facts: Up Up Architecture Office Foster + Partners United Kingdom Category: HOSPITALITY Mixed-use Project Type: Post Type: Building Country: Turkey Photographers: Architects: Foster + Partners Area: 19,600 m2 Year: 2022 City: Istanbul Construction: Client Emaar Description: the architects Text description by Anchoring the new Emaar Square development, the 48-storey mixed-use tower is conceived as a new civic landmark and beacon for the district. • Söderloftet | Fria Folket | ZHIG

HOTELS | Cabin | A tranquil wooden cabin perched on a hillside in Northern Sweden, the Söderloftet is a project by the architectural studio Fria Folket and is part of the Bergaliv landscape hotel. Completed in 2021, the small getaway cabin is located on a rock ledge on Åsberget mountain and offers a spectacular vista over the Ljusnan river valley. The name, meaning "South Loft," reflects its positioning. The structure is raised on slender pillars, a design choice that makes it appear to float among the surrounding treetops and balances the expansive landscape with a fine-tuned connection to the nearby forest. The 20-square-meter cabin consists of two main parts: a closed, heated living area and a large, open-air veranda that includes a covered viewing platform. The sheltered space features an extensive ceiling height of 4.5 meters, which provides an airy ambiance and allows for a smaller sleeping loft above the main living area. Inside, the design marries Nordic minimalism with Japanese-inspired aesthetics, using clean lines and light woods such as birch, fir, and heart pine. The flexible layout and minimal furnishings serve to emphasize the views of nature. A low wooden platform, for instance, can function as seating, a bed, or a space for yoga. To maximize its connection with the surrounding environment, the cabin's construction avoids plastics, and the walls and roof are insulated with flax fibers, a nod to traditional Nordic building methods. The Söderloftet stands as a serene and unobtrusive retreat, designed to help visitors escape a hectic life and find tranquility in nature. Completed in 2017, the hotel consists of a series of elevated wooden cabins designed to offer guests solitude and tranquility while minimizing their impact on the environment. Michelson, who also works for Tham & Videgård Arkitekter, was commissioned to create the cabins, which draw inspiration from traditional Swedish and Japanese design philosophies. The first cabin, known as Lofthuset ("the loft house"), was followed by the Söderloftet in 2021, and additional hideaways are planned. To reduce its visual impact and respect the landscape, each cabin is built on tall stilts that raise it above the ground and allow it to sway gently in the wind. This positioning gives guests a "high above the tree tops" view of the Ljusnan River valley below. The design is built around a concept of duality, with two contrasting spaces. The lower level of the 10-meter-tall structure is a compact, insulated space housing a combined living and sleeping area. This level features a wooden bench for resting and futon mattresses that can be hung on the wall to maximize space. Above, the upper level is an open-air deck with a gabled pinewood roof, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding scenery and functioning as a peaceful vantage point. The cabins are constructed using a palette of natural materials. The exterior is clad in heart-pine and spruce wood, allowing the structures to blend into the forest, while the interior features pale birch plywood and ash. Following Nordic building traditions, the walls are insulated with flax fibers. With their minimalist and raw interiors, the cabins are designed to remove unnecessary noise and focus attention on the expansive natural landscape. • Le Refuge KE01 | Gayet Roger Architectes | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | Cabin | Le Refuge KE01 is a black timber cabin nestled in the dunes of Keremma in Brittany, France, designed by Gayet Roger Architects as a family vacation retreat. Built in 2019, the 850-square-foot cabin (79 square meters) is positioned on a raised platform supported by four-foot-tall metal stilts, which protects it from the area's risk of flooding and preserves the natural terrain. A wooden footbridge connects the entrance of the house to a small path that leads to the nearby beach. The cabin's design draws inspiration from traditional Scandinavian architecture, featuring a dark exterior that allows it to blend into the surrounding landscape of tall cypress trees. The cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure is insulated with blown-in cellulose wadding and clad with rough-sawn wood strips painted with black Falun-style paint, a durable Swedish pigment. At night, the house disappears into the darkness, with only the illuminated windows visible like hanging lanterns. Inside, the warm, spruce-clad living spaces are designed with function in mind, stripped of the superfluous. The architects used rough-sawn wood panels for the built-in benches, dining table, shelving, and counters. The open-plan space is punctuated by strategically placed windows that frame specific views of the landscape. The large fixed window in the corner seating nook offers pastoral scenery, while a western bay window can be opened to extend the main room onto the terrace, blurring the line between inside and outside. Upstairs, the four sleeping areas are designed like small cabins. Each features small, eye-level windows that provide views of the landscape for those lying down and can accommodate two single beds, with a built-in bench on one side and a storage area on the other. • The Beacon | studio appelo | ZHIG

HOSPITALITY | House | Completed in 2021, The Beacon is a 200-square-meter hospitality building located on the rural Unbound estate on the outskirts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Designed by Studio Appelo, the project is a modern interpretation of a traditional rural building, created to serve as a versatile gathering space for guests. The design is notable for its combination of traditional techniques, such as the use of trusses, with modern, prefabricated elements, including the walls and roof. This approach results in an aesthetic of authentic craftsmanship while significantly reducing construction time, costs, and environmental impact. The exterior is constructed from local, clay-based raw Oberon bricks and unfinished, native spruce, which helps the building integrate organically with its natural environment. The interior and exterior are connected by two large, barn door-style shutters that can completely open or close the huge windows. When fully open, the shutters align perfectly with the walls, blurring the line between inside and out. This connection is enhanced by the use of brick flooring that extends from the masonry steps outside into the interior. Inside, a fireplace acts as a central focal point, creating a powerful backdrop for the variety of activities the space can host. The structure was designed to be easily imagined as a stage for performances or other events. • Garden Guesthouse | KFA arkitekter | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | Guesthouse | Completed in 2023, the Garden Guesthouse by KFA arkitekter is a 30-square-meter Attefallshus located just outside Gothenburg, Sweden. This type of small, detached structure is a Swedish typology that does not require a full building permit, allowing homeowners to add additional space for purposes such as guesthouses, home offices, or rental units. Situated at the edge of a residential property, the guesthouse frames the garden between the main house and natural rock formations, creating a secluded and intimate space. The design is a thoughtful blend of Scandinavian minimalism and natural materials. The exterior is clad in untreated heart pine, nailed with dome-headed stainless steel nails, and left to naturally age and blend into its surroundings. The windows are made of oiled oak, and the roof and gutters are zinc, adding a durable and modern touch. The interior palette mirrors the exterior with a pine floor, a pine kitchen, and an oak countertop, creating a cohesive and minimalist aesthetic. The compact layout includes two rooms, a bathroom, and a loft accessed by a ladder, which provides additional sleeping or storage space. The bedroom faces south, while the living room and kitchen are oriented east and north, maximizing natural light throughout the day. The result is a versatile and inviting living space that functions as both a guesthouse for family and friends and a studio during the summer months. • Studio-Garage | IM Interior | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | Renovation | The Studio-Garage, an initiative by Indrė Mylytė-Sinkevičienė of IM Interior, is a 21-square-meter micro-home created by renovating a derelict garage in the medieval old town of Vilnius, Lithuania. The project was envisioned to demonstrate an alternative, minimalist way of life, proving that a person needs very little space to live, work, and sleep comfortably. The design is characterized by a stark contrast between its industrial exterior and its warm, inviting interior. The original structure was reclad in weathering steel, known as Corten, which gives the exterior a striking, robust appearance that blends into the industrial character of its surroundings. Inside, the walls and built-in furniture are lined with birch plywood, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Recessed lighting further enhances the sense of warmth and space within the compact dwelling. The small living space is intelligently designed to be highly functional, with clever storage solutions and a versatile layout. The main area combines a living, dining, and sleeping space, featuring a bed surrounded by concealed storage. Narrow picture windows were strategically placed to offer glimpses of the surrounding greenery and the block opposite. A small, contrasting bathroom is included, and a workspace is integrated into the design. The elongated, single-story structure is carefully positioned to create a calm, horizontal contrast to the vertical trees, effectively creating a secluded oasis. A key feature of the design is its glulam grid construction, which allows for a lightweight yet structurally sound framework. The house rests on cast point foundations, a gentle approach that minimizes its impact on the forest floor and preserves the surrounding tree roots. This method reflects a philosophy of architecture as temporary inhabitation rather than a permanent fixture in the landscape. While the north facade is mostly closed to provide privacy, the south facade features extensive floor-to-ceiling glazing, allowing for abundant natural light and a strong visual connection to the forest. The interior of the house is defined by its clean lines and timber elements, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The design includes features that promote low-impact living, such as a naturally planted wastewater filtration system, a low-energy heating system, and triple-paned windows. The house also incorporates flexible, modular rooms built around an atrium, which serves as the heart of the home. The house was commissioned by a Danish interior designer and the founder of Organic Basics, who sought a nature retreat for their family. • Lake Cabin | FAM Architekti | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | Cabin | Completed in 2014, the Lake Cabin by Prague-based FAM Architekti is a 43-square-meter minimalist retreat situated on the sandy banks of Lake Mácha in the Czech Republic. Designed to replace a dilapidated 1970s cabin, the project was intended as a year-round getaway for a yachting enthusiast, creating a space that visually connects with the surrounding lake and dense pine forest. Its simple, wedge-shaped volume and slatted timber facade draw inspiration from sailing, giving the cabin a sculptural quality. The cabin was constructed using prefabricated techniques to minimize its environmental impact and reduce building time. The entire timber framework and larch cladding were prepared off-site and then assembled on the lakefront in just a week and a half. The structure is also raised slightly off the ground on steel screws, ensuring minimal disturbance to the landscape. When the cabin is not in use, folding and fixed shutters, clad in the same larch as the rest of the exterior, protect the large glazed openings, creating a continuous and secure facade. The interior is designed as one continuous space with a high, open ceiling, reminiscent of a cave or a boat's cabin. The main entrance is a large sliding window, which, along with the other glass elements, emphasizes the connection to nature. The tall end of the cabin features a compact black box containing a minimal kitchen, toilet, and shower. Above this is a sleeping gallery, accessible via a ladder. A full-length, deep cupboard wall offers ample storage and a built-in fireplace. The walls are lined with jangled timber cladding finished with a white oil, enhancing the cave-like, natural aesthetic. The sand-colored cement screed floor complements the sandy beach outside. • Somers Boat Shed | Wellard Architects | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | Extension | Located in Somers, on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia, the Somers Boat Shed is a reimagined 1950s structure designed by Wellard Architects as a treasured extension of the adjacent Somers Beach House. The original asbestos-clad boat shed was dilapidated, so the architects carefully replaced and remodeled it, preserving the original footprint and floor levels while incorporating modern amenities. The project is a key feature of the larger Somers Beach House, which was designed to accommodate an intergenerational family. The boat shed serves as a retreat-like space with a strong connection to the surrounding beachfront. Its design mirrors that of the main house, but on a miniature scale. It is defined by a material palette that includes Blackbutt timber, concrete, and stone. The interior and exterior spaces are designed to invite the surrounding environment inward, offering occupants a place to relax while looking out over the ocean. The path from the house leads directly to the boat shed and beach, creating a seamless connection between the different parts of the property. • Sonoma weeHouse | Alchemy Architects (Geoffrey C. Warner, AIA) | ZHIG

RESIDENTIAL | House | The Sonoma weeHouse is a custom, high-end prefab residential project designed by Alchemy Architects for former Apple designer BJ Siegel and his wife. Completed in 2016, the house is located in the Santa Rosa valley, California, and is situated to maximize expansive views over the landscape. Design and architectural features Modular structure: The project is composed of two main prefabricated modules: a 640-square-foot main house and a 330-square-foot guesthouse. Minimalist aesthetic: The structures were designed as simple, open-sided boxes, echoing a minimalist aesthetic that the client favored. They sit on concrete plinths and are positioned to make the house feel as light on the ground as possible. Weathering steel facade: The exterior is clad in corrugated weathering steel (Corten), which has a distinctive rusting finish that helps the building blend into the natural, rural landscape of seasonal grasses and oak trees. Expansive glass walls: Both modules feature nine-foot-tall sliding glass walls, enabling the interiors to open up to the outdoors and connect inhabitants with the surrounding nature. Cantilevered deck: An outdoor porch cantilevers over the valley, extending the living space out into the landscape. This posed a unique construction challenge that required a separate module to be attached on-site. Ipe and oak interiors: The interior is lined with durable, textured ipe wood, which contrasts with the minimalist Cor-Ten exterior. The main living space features an oak "bedbox," and the cabinetry uses oiled oak. Interior layout: The main house functions like a studio, with an open-plan kitchen, living area, and a semi-enclosed sleeping space. Recessed pocket doors and screens, including a drop-down insect screen, minimize visual clutter. Construction and delivery The prefab modules were designed in Minnesota by Alchemy Architects and were fabricated in a factory in Oregon. The modules were delivered to the California site about 90% complete, significantly reducing on-site construction time and labor. Steel accessories, such as stairs and porch railings, were prefabricated separately in Minnesota and also delivered to the site. A crane was used to carefully place the structures on the concrete foundations between the existing oak trees. Credits Architects: Alchemy Architects (Lead Architect: Geoffrey Warner). Client and Design Collaborator: BJ Siegel. Completion Year: 2016. Builder: Fidelity Builders Inc.. Interior Design: Alchemy. Photographs: Geoffrey Warner. • KURDISTAN MUSEUM | Daniel Libeskind Studio | ZHIG

CULTURAL | Museum | The site of the new Kurdistan Museum will be the first major institution to dedicate itself to the preservation and education of the Kurds’ national heritage to the region and the world. In collaboration with the Kurdistan Regional Government and client representative RWF World, the team has embarked on a visionary project to share the story of the Kurdish people with the world and inspire an open dialogue for the future generations within Kurdistan. Situated at the base of the ancient Citadel, in the center of Erbil, Iraq, the 150,000 square-foot museum will feature exhibition spaces for both permanent and temporary exhibitions, a lecture theatre, state-of-the-art multimedia educational resources, an extensive digital archive of Kurdish historical assets, as well as community center and landscaped outdoor spaces for public use. The form of the museum is created by four interlocking geometric volumes that represent the Kurdish regions: Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Iraq. The volumes are intersected by a line that is broken into two angular fragments, representing the past and future of Kurdistan. The two fragments create an emotive duality: a heavy and opaque mass, the Anfal Line, which symbolizes the genocide under Saddam Hussein; and the Liberty Line, a lattice structure filled with greenery that ascends towards the sky and culminates with an eternal flame – a powerful symbol in Kurdish culture. At the junction between the Anfal and Liberty Lines is an open-air courtyard conceived as a tranquil and meditative space at the heart of the museum. The courtyard references those found in the Citadel and throughout the ancient, urban neighborhoods of Erbil. There is a water feature that extends from the landscape through the museum, bringing to mind the rivers and fertile valleys of Kurdistan. The landscape offers performance spaces, café seating, and picnic grounds where people can gather. The Kurdistan Museum is a place that will embed the story of the group into the architecture. It is an immersive experience about memory and identity and will stand as a tangible artifice of the Kurdish identity. | https://static.wixstatic.com/media/9756fd_c32594c3154f45e3a871a51616f00b4c~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_2280,h_1268,al_c,q_90/KURDISTAN%20MUSEUM2.jpg 1/0 Private Public Pin Pin 0 x Appreciators 0 3D models Product 2.7K Views 0 Appreciated Appreciate Please login to appreciate KURDISTAN MUSEUM Citadel of Erbil, Erbil, Iraq www.libeskind.com Source: Published on Sep 28, 2023 by: CG Artist Andrew L Premium Member More Buildings from Iraq Facts: Up Up Architecture Office Daniel Libeskind Studio United States Category: CULTURAL Museum Project Type: Post Type: Building Country: Iraq Photographers: Architects: Daniel Libeskind Studio Area: 150,000 sq. ft. Our Studio is a collaboration of architects and designers that believe architecture is a practice of optimism. We approach our projects with the attitude that to make great places, you must believe in the future, but also remember the past. Studio Libeskind’s architecture emerges from the idea that a building should be expressive and reflect contemporary life. Innovation is at the core of our design process. We believe that bold design must be realized with sustainable technology and we strongly believe that the art of architecture lies in creating a maximum impact within the constraints of budgets and functionality. We know from experience that great architecture comes from working with great clients; however, architecture is a public art and we hold ourselves accountable not only to the client, but to the communities, and cities in which we build. Daniel and his partner Nina Libeskind established Studio Daniel Libeskind in Berlin, Germany, in 1989 after winning the competition to build the Jewish Museum Berlin. In February 2003, Studio Daniel Libeskind moved its headquarters from Berlin to New York City when Daniel Libeskind was selected as the master planner for the World Trade Center redevelopment. source: libeskind.com Category Museum Post Type Building Project Type CULTURAL Country Iraq Year 2009 Area 150,000 sq. ft.
