The project aims to provide an affordable, minimalist dwelling that allows for a deep connection with nature. The standard design consists of two prefabricated plywood modules that can be configured in different ways. A core unit of 24 square meters can be expanded with an optional 12-square-meter add-on, increasing the total space to 37 square meters. The construction system, which does not require complex foundations, allows the cabins to be assembled efficiently, even in remote locations via helicopter. For example, a version was proposed in Andorra. The design is distinguished by its steeply sloping roof and a dramatic, floor-to-ceiling glazed wall, which maximizes natural light and provides expansive views of the surrounding landscape. The exterior is protected with black pine tar for waterproofing, giving it a dark, rustic appearance that blends with the wilderness. Inside, the pale plywood is left exposed, creating a warm, modern, and minimalist aesthetic. The project emphasizes self-sufficiency and includes features for off-grid living, such as photovoltaic panels for electricity and batteries for storage. A rainwater harvesting system collects water from the roof, further reinforcing the cabin's eco-friendly philosophy. Surrounded by pine forests, the residence is a contemporary interpretation of coastal living, respecting both the landscape and the area's architectural heritage. The house features a bi-level structure, with its lower level partially submerged into the bedrock, a technique that minimizes the visual impact of the building and anchors it firmly to the cliffside. The main living floor sits perched on the cliff top, offering expansive and direct views of the Baltic Sea. This elevated position allows the house to feel protected yet completely connected to the dramatic coastal environment. The exterior is clad in spruce and painted with traditional linseed-oil paint, a nod to the 19th-century buildings characteristic of the region. This choice of material and finish helps the villa blend into its surroundings and weathers gracefully over time. Inside, the design creates a strong visual link between the interior and the rugged, natural surroundings. Large glass walls frame the dramatic landscape, bringing the sea and forest views directly into the living spaces. The interior palette is a mix of white and wood, complemented by unique details that reference the natural world. For instance, leaf-green floor tiles at the entrance mirror the surrounding pine forests, while rocks from the site itself are incorporated into both the interior and exterior. The living, dining, and kitchen areas feature retro-style furniture, adding a touch of character and warmth to the contemporary shell. A flat roof over the submerged lower level is topped with a wooden deck and balustrades, creating a large, sheltered terrace accessible from the main living area. Above the upper floor, a gabled, zinc-covered roof provides robust protection against the area's often harsh wind and sea spray. Facing challenges such as a narrow site in a flood zone and proximity to neighbors, the design incorporates a gable form and central axis as a nod to the site's original cottage. The layout includes staggered garage and living wings that create courtyards to enhance natural light indoors. The exterior combines Abodo Sioo:x timber cladding and reclaimed bricks at the entrance. Inside, a glass door provides a view through a hallway with lime plaster, leading to a bright, open-plan living area featuring a double-height ceiling and mezzanine. Completed in 2023, the homes function as a glamping-style eco-hotel and are situated in the Braslav Lakes National Park in Belarus. The project was developed to promote domestic tourism by creating stylish, modern architecture that complements the region's pristine natural landscape, known for its glacial lakes and relict forests. The architectural design is characterized by Scandinavian minimalism, focusing on modularity, natural materials, panoramic glazing, and expansive terraces. The homes come in several types—including Camp B, Camp C, Camp C Flat, and a SPA module—varying in size from 17 to 55 square meters to accommodate different group sizes. The modular system allows for flexible expansion over time, enabling the complex to grow with demand. The exterior features a ""total black"" aesthetic, with facades and terraces finished in charcoal-black wood and corrugated roofing in the same shade, allowing the buildings to blend seamlessly with the surrounding pine forest. The interior continues the minimalist theme, using a natural color palette of wood, white, and anthracite accents. This design choice provides a serene and uncluttered environment, shifting focus from the interior to the natural beauty outside. Each house offers comfort and functionality, with Camp B, for example, including a living area, kitchen, bathroom, and a built-in sauna. Some larger models, like Camp C, feature a wood-burning stove and a separate seating area. The complex also includes a separate spa building with a panoramic sauna and a wood-fired plunge pool. The project showcases the studio's craftsmanship and creative use of materials by replacing a dilapidated structure with a modern guesthouse and studio. The cabin is a modern interpretation of a classic black hut found in rural areas, designed to blend into its fairytale-like surroundings. Its simple, lightweight, and economical design was inspired by the local rural vernacular and built to a tight budget. The structure is set on the edge of a wood next to a tranquil lake, with its openings strategically placed to frame views of the natural scenery. The timber cladding and exposed beams were milled from trees in the surrounding woods that had been damaged in a storm several years prior. The wood was blackened and sealed using a mixture of wood stain and recycled tractor engine oil, a low-cost, durable treatment typical of local agricultural buildings. The walls and floors are lined with Oriented Strand Board (OSB), a robust and cost-effective engineered panel that complements the exposed timber beams. The simple, open-plan interior is centered around a wood-burning stove and can be used for working, sleeping, and socializing. Exposed scissor rafters create a vaulted ceiling, making the small interior feel more spacious. Black-framed windows draw attention to the surrounding landscape, and glazed doors open onto a wraparound timber deck. A small bathroom is discreetly tucked into one corner, and a small, covered porch serves as a mudroom. Project credits Architects: De Rosee Sa. Project Lead: Max de Rosee, founder of the studio.
