The project site was a former rural farmland, now covered in dense woods and scattered rock outcroppings, and was selected to provide an escape from urban loft living. The 25' x 25' x 25' cubical volume is articulated with sharp angles, likened to a faceted stone, which serve to shed water and shape entries, allowing the structure to blend with the rocky landscape. The interior and exterior are connected through large sliding doors that open onto a sequence of Alaska yellow cedar decks and strategically placed boulders. These outdoor spaces expand the cottage's footprint, overlooking a small meadow and a historic fieldstone wall.
