If you come in you experience the purpose - you are shielded while having access to the whole sea. The bathhouse rests on a galvanized steel frame that stands on two granite columns and a concrete base at the rear. The building is designed to fit into the environment without sticking out too much while having a modern design language. This is solved by working with the building as a volume of scarce details instead of surfaces such as roof and wall. The materials are treated with the same color to enhance the experience of the volume. The materials consist of solid wood floors and ceilings and a room with toilet at the back with walls of solid wood that stiffen the construction. In the main room, the traditional stonework structure has been removed and replaced by thicker cladding tables angled 45° carrying the ceiling. Between each cladding table are mounted narrow transparent acrylic panels. PREFABRICATED | Tiny House | The ÁPH80 Transportable House, designed and manufactured by the Spanish firm Ábaton Arquitectura, is a prefabricated micro-dwelling designed for two people and can be delivered anywhere by road. The project, launched in 2013, explores a flexible, minimalist, and sustainable approach to living. Although it is no longer in production, the ÁPH80 is a notable exploration into transportable micro-architecture. Design and architectural features Dimensions: The unit measures 27 square meters (9 x 3 meters). Layout: The compact interior is intelligently arranged to maximize the sense of space, without hallways or wasted areas. The gabled roof provides an interior height of up to 3.5 meters. It contains three distinct spaces: A central living room/kitchen. A double bedroom at one end. A full bathroom with a shower at the other end. Large openings: The house features large front openings with sliding glass doors to connect the interior with the surrounding landscape. The house, reminiscent of a barn or boat, was created to blend into the picturesque, mountainous landscape while addressing the challenges of its remote and landslide-prone location. To mitigate the risk of landslides and increase security, the design features a distinctive "twisted" form, with one corner of the house touching the ground while the rest is suspended over the slope. The structure acts like a bridge, supported by three independent walls, which allows rainwater and mud to flow freely underneath without causing damage. A gable roof, required by local building regulations, was "inverted" and tensions the three supporting walls. Constructed from concrete, the interior and exterior finishes are kept minimal and raw, with the concrete serving as both structure and facade. A layer of sprayed closed-cell foam is used for insulation on the inside, which also acts as a vapor barrier. The roof is covered with a TPO membrane. The house is designed to maximize views of the landscape, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing panoramic vistas from every room. A notable feature is the drawbridge entrance, which can be lowered to act as a set of stairs or raised to secure the house and create a window shutter. This project emerges from a rich narrative that intertwines personal passion, innovative design, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship. "The inception of this Tiny House can be traced back to Szymon Girtler, who, after years of producing skis under the Monck Custom brand, found himself pivoting due to unexpected changes in the market landscape. With his ski business halted, Szymon sought to further develop his carpentry skills, leading him to collaborate with Ewa Gregorowicz. Together, they identified a niche in the Polish market for well-designed micro-homes that go beyond the typical prefabricated options," said Mikołaj Wojciechowski, Co-founder of Studio Public Partnering with Mikołaj Wojciechowski and his team at Studio Public, the architects approached the Tiny House project with a fresh perspective. They began with a blank slate, asking themselves what kind of space would provide the utmost comfort. According to the architects, “The obvious choice was a bed with a fabulous view of the surrounding nature.” They envisioned a living room with an equally spectacular view, a separate bedroom for privacy, and a bathroom that also offers a glimpse of the outdoors. A terrace was deemed essential, and the architects innovatively integrated it into the house's structure, eliminating the typical issues associated with mobile homes. The terrace design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also serves a practical purpose. When raised, it acts like a drawbridge, securing the house and ensuring safety in remote locations. This innovative approach redefined the house's form, moving the entrance away from the center and creating a unique visual identity. The exterior of the Tiny House features a modern and ascetic character, combining graphite sheet metal and burnt wood. In contrast, the interior is designed to evoke warmth, with light plywood walls and wooden flooring. The architects paid meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that subtle LED lighting and wall sconces create a tranquil atmosphere for relaxation in the evenings. Constructed from concrete, the interior and exterior finishes are kept minimal and raw, with the concrete serving as both structure and facade. A layer of sprayed closed-cell foam is used for insulation on the inside, which also acts as a vapor barrier. The roof is covered with a TPO membrane. The house is designed to maximize views of the landscape, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing panoramic vistas from every room. A notable feature is the drawbridge entrance, which can be lowered to act as a set of stairs or raised to secure the house and create a window shutter. The house has become a minor tourist attraction, with the space underneath even being used by local grazing animals as a shelter. The resort is located in Wieniotowo, Poland, near the Baltic Sea coast, and was built based on the owners' travel experiences and desire to create a perfect, relaxing getaway. The design of the holiday homes aims to combine comfortable accommodation with the surrounding wild nature, with each of the five houses named to evoke a specific feeling: Pasja (Passion), Wolność (Freedom), Spokój (Peace), Oddech (Breath), and Bliskość (Closeness). The homes, each 63 square meters, are equipped to a high hotel standard, and four of them feature private saunas and hot tubs on the terraces. The site's layout was meticulously planned by LOOKA studio, with the houses arranged radially to give each guest a sense of private space, and large terraces offer panoramic views of the surrounding fields and countryside. The project was developed in stages, with the expansion that revealed the Bliskość and Oddech houses being highlighted in mid-2022. In addition to the adult-focused amenities, the resort is designed to be family-friendly, featuring a "Kids Club" with three separate playrooms for different age groups, a large playground, and a bonfire area. The homes are also well-equipped for families, with safety gates on the stairs, baby baths, and high chairs. For active guests, the retreat is situated just 300 meters from the Velo Baltica cycling route and 400 meters from the beach. The structures were built using the HBE glued timber system, eliminating the need for additional interior wall finishes. The exterior is clad in Siberian larch, which was left untreated to allow it to patinate naturally under the sun's UV rays, helping the cottages blend into the landscape. The base of each cottage is finished with hewn stone, referencing the nearby quarry and grounding the structures to the site. The cottages are slightly elevated from their stone plinths, creating the impression that they are levitating over the slope. This design choice not only enhances the visual effect but also brings occupants closer to the surrounding nature, as bushes seen from the living room resemble treetops. To preserve the natural, wild character of the plot, the architects opted for unpaved paths using aggregate from the local area and avoided adding fences. A final coat of natural tung oil was applied with assistance from the owners' children. The couple originally intended to build a new straw-bale house but instead chose a mindful, preservation-focused approach to revive the existing, dilapidated structure. The renovation was performed on a modest budget, prioritizing the use of locally sourced materials and salvaged items from the property itself, including fieldstone. The design philosophy focused on respecting the past to build a better, more sustainable future, challenging conventional, modern building standards. Materials were selected based on their regional availability and sustainable qualities. For instance, Eastern White Pine and Eastern Cedar were used for their proximity, reducing transport-related environmental impact. Charring the exterior timber using a slow, meditative, on-site process—rather than automated, high-heat methods—protected the wood naturally against decay, insects, and weather, while providing fire resistance. A final coat of natural tung oil was applied with assistance from the owners' children. The home's most significant sustainable upgrade, and the source of its name, is the addition of zero-carbon, plant-based hemp insulation. The insulation was applied in the form of hempcrete, a breathable material made from the woody core of the hemp plant mixed with a lime binder. This natural mixture regulates interior temperature and humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture, reducing the risk of mold and eliminating the need for plastic or vapor barriers. Inside, the cabin features a warm and inviting atmosphere, in contrast to its weathered exterior. Designed and completed in 2022 by BE Architektur, the house reinterprets the traditional Swiss agricultural barn typology (known as a schüür) into a functional and sculptural family home. The design's main goal was to create a new home that respects and blends into its historical and agricultural context. BE Architektur's founder, Boris Egli, achieved this by taking typical barn characteristics and reinterpreting them in a modern way. From a distance, the house appears to be another unassuming outbuilding in the hamlet, but upon closer inspection, its contemporary nature is revealed. Key features of this reinterpretation include: Glazed spruce facade: The exterior is clad in the same type of timber used for traditional Swiss barns, but with a transparent glaze that allows the wood to weather naturally. This 65 m² retreat, completed in 2020, replaces a dilapidated barn on a summer pasture 1,070 meters above sea level. The project's philosophy is rooted in a respect for the landscape and a commitment to self-sufficiency, creating a modern shelter that honors the area's pastoral heritage. The design concept for the Béllerine Cabin evolved from the idea of a primitive shelter centered around a fireplace. It also draws inspiration from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "Terre des Hommes," which speaks to human connection with the land. The cabin's form retains the memory of the barn it replaced, utilizing the same footprint and volume to preserve its place within the landscape. The interior is conceived as a "cavern-like room" with a central fireplace that radiates heat. The substantial internal mass absorbs and stores this heat, also keeping the space cool during warmer summer months. Large windows frame the dramatic and ever-changing views of the Rhône valley and Lake Léman, allowing minimal furnishings to focus attention on the natural surroundings. The cabin is entirely self-sufficient, relying on wood from the surrounding forest for heating and an autonomous system for water and electricity. Cloux Architecture's commitment to local sourcing and natural materials is evident throughout the construction. The frame was fabricated and insulated off-site using wood fiber from just five miles away. The roof is covered with untreated European larch shingles, a durable material that has been used for centuries. The external and internal cladding is made of untreated, local spruce sourced from a nearby mill. All cement used in the project was produced less than ten miles from the site. The cabin's design is integrated with its environment through bioclimatic strategies. Trees like wild cherry and sycamore on the western side of the building provide solar gain in winter while offering crucial shade in the summer. This natural shade helped justify the inclusion of large openings during the permitting process.
