FH429 | Signature Chair FH429 | Signature Chair Designed By Frits Henningsen CHS Manufacturer Denmark View Storefront Category: FURNITURE Chair Materials: Colour: oak, oil, stainless steel, and 4 variants Product Code: Manufacture Year: Dimensions: 0.00 BIM/CAD Retailers Map © copyrights to: carlhansen.com CHS Denmark See all More by CHS Like Liked Please login to like FH429 | Signature Chair Jun 8, 2023 Overview Details Comments PDF A design both unique and pure The FH429 Signature Chair was designed by Frits Henningsen, a cabinetmaker who held his profession to very high standards. Henningsen always manufactured his own designs and often began by creating a small model – in this case, using modeling clay and toothpicks. The frame was then made in his Copenhagen workshop, undergoing months of testing and adjustments before Henningsen was content. After the lounge chair was completed in 1954, fewer than 20 pieces were produced. Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the design in 2015. The simplicity of Henningsen’s work increased over the years. The Signature Chair becoming his purest, most pared-down design. His interest in achieving comfort and elegance through the use of graceful, curved lines is apparent in this final project. Its soft, inviting shapes and floating armrests create a simple, organic form that calls for quiet contemplation. The FH429 Signature Chair is available with the matching FH430 footstool for added comfort. Sign up to join the conversation In order to have your Name and photo displayed you must have "Info. Card". Completed in 1990, the 950-square-foot home is composed of three interconnected, Cubist pavilions that appear to emerge from the rocky terrain. Schweitzer, who briefly worked for Frank Gehry, utilized bold, nature-inspired colors—mossy green, sapphire blue, and pinkish-red—that evoke the hues of the desert sage, sky, and wild flowers. The home sits amidst a landscape of immense boulders, and its angular, geometric volumes deliberately mirror the rock formations around it. The design is notable for its use of asymmetric, trapezoidal openings that frame dramatic views of the surrounding Mojave Desert, bringing the landscape into the interior spaces. The shifting perspectives and relationships between the house's three volumes create a dynamic experience as one moves around the property. The internal spaces are animated by paler tones of lime, ochre, mustard, and brick. Originally conceived as a vacation home for the architect and his wife, the Monument House later became available for private bookings, allowing the public to experience this radical and sculptural piece of architecture. The Monument House represents a long tradition of experimental architecture in the California high desert, where unique and visionary structures are often found. In 1990, the project was recognized with an Architectural Record Award in the vacation and summer home category. The original asbestos-clad boat shed was dilapidated, so the architects carefully replaced and remodeled it, preserving the original footprint and floor levels while incorporating modern amenities. The project is a key feature of the larger Somers Beach House, which was designed to accommodate an intergenerational family. The boat shed serves as a retreat-like space with a strong connection to the surrounding beachfront. Its design mirrors that of the main house, but on a miniature scale. It is defined by a material palette that includes Blackbutt timber, concrete, and stone. The interior and exterior spaces are designed to invite the surrounding environment inward, offering occupants a place to relax while looking out over the ocean. The path from the house leads directly to the boat shed and beach, creating a seamless connection between the different parts of the property. The project, documented on his YouTube channel, is a modern and humble take on a basic alpine hut. The 12x16.5-foot cabin was built by Waldman and Molly using salvaged and site-milled redwood from trees killed in the fire, as well as some new materials. The cabin features a simple layout with an open kitchen, a small bedroom, and a bathroom. Its defining saltbox roof is low-slung and provides a high ceiling on the taller side, creating a cozy yet spacious feel inside. The design also incorporates unconventional, exposed framing and post-and-beam construction. A portion of the $17,400 material cost went toward salvaged old-growth redwood and modern French doors and sliding windows. The project's philosophy focuses on sustainability, community, and skill-building. The use of fire-killed and salvaged wood highlights a regenerative approach to building. Waldman has shared the knowledge gained from the build on his "Elevated Spaces" platforms, including a build guide and video, to encourage others to take on similar projects. Completed in 2019, the project is situated on a slope with views towards Cerro Piltriquitron. The architecture is adapted to the natural incline of the terrain, allowing the house to step down in a way that maximizes the panoramic vista. The cabin's design emphasizes efficiency and sustainability. A 2-foot by 2-foot grid system was used to modularize the construction, which reduced material waste and enabled a quicker build time. A substantial northern overhang was incorporated to passively protect the interior from the sun, while cross-ventilation provides a natural cooling mechanism. For the interior, full sheets of pine plywood were used to create a cozy, cabin-like feel, showcasing the modularity of the construction. The exterior material choices included charred wood, utilizing the Shou Sugi Ban technique on the north and south walls for weather protection, and black corrugated metal for the roof, east, and west walls. Half of the cabin rests on a concrete slab, providing thermal mass for regulating interior temperatures. Recycled cellulose was used for insulation. Created as a vacation home for an elderly couple who often visit Daegu, the project provides a comfortable and familiar space for them and their visiting family. The house is situated on an elevated eastern side of the plot to maximize yard space on the western side, which faces a public park. The design is notable for its dynamic, sloping roof, which was chosen to both prevent leaks and create an open, airy interior. The roof is cut into sections to allow natural sunlight to enter the bedrooms and bathrooms on the south side, reducing the need for artificial lighting and causing the internal atmosphere to shift throughout the day. The high-ceilinged living room is positioned to overlook the yard and the trees in the park beyond, enhancing the sense of openness. The interior layout was designed to maximize the feeling of space, with an open flow between the living room, kitchen, dining area, and a lofted attic. This design creates a minimalist and cohesive living environment.
