    COMMERCIAL | Office building | With the completion of its new headquarters, the 1,600 employees of the Le Monde Group have been brought together under the same roof in a generously arching building on 67-69 Avenue Pierre-Mendès-France in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. With its bold new plaza and semi-transparent outer skin, the building creates connections to the general public and surrounding transit while also offering citizens and passersby a generous respite in the city. We share our name with a beautiful, remote, and historically important mountain in central Norway. Snøhetta is a place nobody is from, but anyone can experience. Creating places for societies to connect with each other and with the world around them is a primary motivation in our work. Dialogue and diversity empower this approach. Snøhetta first significant commission was in 1989 for Bibliotheca Alexandrina, reviving the ancient library in Alexandria, Egypt. This was followed by commissions for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the World Trade Center in New York City.   • Cabin Nordmarka | JVA Jarmund Vigsnæs AS | ZHIG

    RESIDENTIAL | Cabin | Designed by JVA Jarmund Vigsnæs AS Architects MNAL, the Cabin in Nordmarka is a 120-square-meter retreat completed in 2004 in a freshly cut clearing in a forest near Oslo, Norway. Created primarily for use during the winter cross-country skiing season, the cabin is elevated off the ground and is designed to take in views of the soft hills, lakes, and low winter sun toward the southern horizon. The design is conceived as a "thick house," with secondary spaces serving as a form of insulation between the exterior and the interior core. This core is a two-story central space that functions like a small urban piazza and is filled with light from the sides and above. This central area features varied ceiling heights, ranging from smaller, cave-like children's beds to a high-ceilinged common room. Natural light is filtered into this central space through the surrounding secondary rooms. The materials and color palette reflect traditional housing in the area: a black-stained wooden shell and a light-wood interior. The timber construction features substantial insulation, with walls insulated to 15 cm, floors to 20 cm, and the roof to 25 cm. Wooden panels are used for cladding both the interior and exterior, and the roof is covered with wooden panels over a membrane. Interior fittings and the kitchen are custom-designed by the architects, using pine plywood. Pine and fir were used for both the cladding and construction. The bathroom and hallway floors are finished with limestone, and a plastered masonry fireplace provides warmth.     RESIDENTIAL | Summer House | Located at Følle Strand in Rønde, Denmark, the Strandvejen 35 project is a tiny summer house designed by Jesper Kusk Arkitekter, completed in 2023.     HOSPITALITY | Cabin | Situated at the Fazenda Pedra Alta farm in Joanópolis, Brazil, the Altar Ninho Cabin by Natureza Urbana is an elevated, sustainable, and compact retreat designed for deep immersion in nature. Completed in July 2023, the 20-square-meter treehouse-style cabin is part of Altar's broader initiative to create decentralized hotels, offering a glamping experience that uses technology to promote sustainable hospitality. The cabin was constructed with a prefabricated metallic structure to minimize environmental impact and reduce on-site construction time. Elevated on metal pillars to a height of up to four meters, the structure's off-the-ground position reduces its footprint on the landscape, preserves the natural topography, and gives guests expansive views over the surrounding Atlantic Forest and the Joanópolis Reservoir. Completed in July 2023, the 20-square-meter treehouse-style cabin is part of Altar's broader initiative to create decentralized hotels, offering a glamping experience that uses technology to promote sustainable hospitality. The cabin was constructed with a prefabricated metallic structure to minimize environmental impact and reduce on-site construction time. Elevated on metal pillars to a height of up to four meters, the structure's off-the-ground position reduces its footprint on the landscape, preserves the natural topography, and gives guests expansive views over the surrounding Atlantic Forest and the Joanópolis Reservoir. Inside, the living, kitchen, and bedroom spaces are integrated into a single, light-filled environment, with a strategically placed large opening next to the queen-size bunk bed offering direct and immersive views of the reservoir. The bathroom is illuminated by a zenithal opening, providing views of the sky and treetops from within. The interior and exterior spaces are connected by a generous natural wood deck, where guests can enjoy a leisurely area with furniture, a shower, a barbecue grill, and a space for a bonfire. The project's design prioritizes a rational and sophisticated geometry, with a simple yet elegant aesthetic that seamlessly integrates with the forest environment. A 2022 collaboration with Tok&Stok, which included a line of furniture and decorative items designed by Natureza Urbana, informed the cabin's sustainable ethos.     CULTURAL ARCHITECTURE | Film Museum and Cinema | EYE Film Institute Netherlands is situated on a prime location at the bend of the river IJ, opposite the historical part of the city and the Central Station. The building is conceived as a highly tense and dynamic geometric solid. The light is reflected in multiple ways by smooth, crystalline surfaces, thus subjecting the building’s appearance to permanent optical changes during the course of the day. Movement and light manifest themselves clearly as essential parameters for the film as a medium in the architectural production. The entrance into the building is characterised by continuous spatial concentration and directed visual relations. Spatial development, light incidence, and materiality define the path that leads from the southern glass front and the museum shop into the heart of the building. The room widens successively, before unfolding its full dimensions as an architectural and functional focus.
