Black-h is a minimalist holiday home on the Isle of Skye designed by Dualchas Architects to reinterpret the traditional Scottish blackhouse, featuring a dark larch exterior that blends into the coastal landscape. The 60 m² (645 ft²) structure, completed in 2018 in Ardmore, Dunvegan, maximizes panoramic views of Loch Vatten and the Cuillin mountains through strategic positioning and floor-to-ceiling glazing. Inside, the home offers a soft-minimalist, warm aesthetic with interior design featuring natural materials and bespoke, locally sourced furniture. The interior uses a singular open-plan living, dining, and cooking space lined with polished concrete floors and large sliding glass panels that dissolve the boundary between indoors and the Atlantic landscape. The structural engineering team ensured the framework could withstand severe coastal wind loads.
